Telefónica Deutschland and Crout launch 2CoreSIM resilient connectivity solution
13, July 2026
- Greater reliability for critical processes – new connectivity solutions for logistics, food retail, healthcare, manufacturing, security, critical infrastructure and backup systems
- 2CoreSIM combines two independent network profiles on a single SIM card and can automatically switch between Telefónica Deutschland and Melita in case of poor reception, degraded quality or technical disruptions
- A partnership approach for resilient IoT: Telefónica Deutschland contributes network and connectivity expertise, while Crout adds IoT know-how, access to Melita and proximity to customers in relevant industries
When cold chains are monitored, cash transport is secured, vital data is transmitted, alarm systems are controlled or backup systems are activated, connectivity must remain reliable. Crout and Telefónica Deutschland are launching 2CoreSIM, a resilient IoT connectivity solution designed for critical industry processes and applications.

Engineered for critical iot
The solution addresses a clear shift in the IoT market. Many IoT deployments still rely on connectivity models largely built around consumer market requirements: coverage, bandwidth and price. Critical IoT has a different demand profile. It requires resilience, predictability, lifecycle stability and operational continuity. 2CoreSIM is designed for exactly this requirement.

If temperature data doesn’t arrive, a logistics problem becomes a quality risk, or if video surveillance and alarm systems fail, this can lead to immediate security risks and financial consequences. Even wildfire and flood early-warning systems only work if alerts are received in a timely manner. Together with Telefónica Deutschland, we are therefore bringing resilient connectivity to places where outages are particularly costly, risky, or business-critical. The solution reduces complexity and embeds reliability directly into the SIM card.” Frank Kiesewetter CEO, Crout |
![]() | “Digital processes are becoming increasingly business-critical for companies. Anyone who monitors the flow of goods, transmits medical data, controls security systems, or operates backup systems needs connectivity that works even in the event of a disruption. The partnership with Crout demonstrates how strong networks, IoT expertise, and intelligent SIM technology come together to create a solution that gives companies greater reliability and operational control.” Jörg Kablitz Chief Partner & Wholesale Officer, Telefónica Deutschland |
A partnership of strengths
2CoreSIM works because each partner does what it does best. Telefónica Deutschland provides a modern, highly developed mobile network, with a core and antenna footprint of more than 29,000 sites. That network powers the one profile.
Crout contributes the IoT expertise, SIM technology and the day-to-day customer relationship. Together with Melita, which supplies the second network on infrastructure separate from the first, Crout pulls the whole thing together into one integrated solution for highly available IoT connections.

How 2CoreSIM works
The technical core of the solution lies in the SIM itself. A single eUICC hosts two independent operator profiles. One profile uses Telefónica Deutschland; the other profile provides access to Melita. If the primary connection is unavailable or no longer meets the required quality, the SIM can activate the alternative profile and rebuild the data connection over the second infrastructure.
This switching logic is controlled locally on the card, which is installed in the IoT device. Companies do not need to install additional applications or manually reconfigure device profiles. This reduces complexity and embeds resilience directly into the connectivity layer.
The solution goes beyond traditional roaming. It is not only about reaching several radio networks. It is about combining separate network profiles and core infrastructures on one SIM, with local decision logic and defined fallback behaviour for critical use cases.
Relevance arises in specific use cases
2CoreSIM is suitable for applications where stable connectivity is essential for operation. In logistics, high-value goods, containers or cash-in-transit vehicles can be continuously monitored. In food retail and pharmaceutical logistics, temperature data from cold chains can be transmitted more reliably. In healthcare, resilient connectivity supports the transmission of vital signs and device data. In industry and security, sensors, machines, alarm systems, video surveillance and backup solutions can remain reachable even when the primary connection fails.
The same applies to critical infrastructure and early-warning systems. Pumping stations, water treatment plants, energy sites and remote technical installations depend on reliable data transmission. Flood monitoring, wildfire detection and environmental warning systems only create value if alerts arrive in time.

In transport and logistics, 2CoreSIM keeps high-value cargo and cash-in-transit vehicles trackable from end to end.

Critical infrastructure such as water and energy relies on a connection that does not stop.
